The Centralia School District’s Child Development Programs at Centralia, Danbrook, and San Marino Schools are open and accepting new enrollees for their newly expanded preschool programs.

The Centralia School District was awarded grant funding to offer additional preschool programs to income eligible students ages 3 to 4. This new expansion of the district’s award winning programs increases access for 100 more young scholars to make meaningful connections to learning by providing an optimal learning experience in a safe environment and enhance knowledge and skills to support continual paths of learning.  “Early childhood education is a subject matter that is of great importance to our board and District,” shared Superintendent Norma Martinez.  “With their support, we have been able to expand our early childhood education programs so that more eligible children can have a seat at the classroom table.”

CESD Kindergarten teacher Elizabeth Cruz sees the benefits of the district programs. “Students who have participated in the Centralia District Preschool Program have developed countless skills for school readiness,” she shared. “Student vocabulary is more developed, and students are better equipped to communicate their needs and solve problems. Other skills, such as listening, learning routines, sharing, and working together give them skills that will support success in kindergarten and their entire school career.  Communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking begin with preschool in Centralia.”

Enrollment is open now to children who will be 3 or 4 years of age by September 1st. Child Development Services staff are available to answer eligibility questions and to help enroll families, please contact: (714) 228-3153.

For more information, please see the attached flyers.

The Centralia School District School calendar for the 2017-18 School year is now available here and on your school site page.

We are pleased to announce that America On Track, an award winning nonprofit organization, is implementing an exciting new 3-year physical activity, health and nutrition program at all 8 Centralia Elementary School District schools.

The project, On Track Through Fitness & Nutrition, is made possible by a Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grant awarded to America On Track from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Safe & Healthy Students. This project will also feature a local partnership with Northgate Markets, and the City of Buena Park.

In addition to helping all CESD students become more physically fit through fun PE classes and other fitness activities, America On Track will be coordinating a variety of services that promote lifelong physical activity practices and healthy eating habits.

America On Track will be providing and coordinating the following services:

  • Weekly classes led by physical education specialists in conjunction with the classroom teacher;
  • 5-week nutrition education curriculum;
  • Viva la Salud Health and Wellness Program in partnership with Northgate Markets;
  • Professional development for school staff and PE specialists in partnership with California State University, Fullerton.

In addition to the training and curriculum, CESD schools will also receive:

  • $2,000 worth of equipment,
  • an opportunity to win $10,000 for a permanent or semi-permanent sports equipment
  • an option to have school gardens

For more information, please see the attached letters that are being sent home with each of our students.

We are so excited to implement this program at our schools and to support the wellness of the whole child.
